I know this is a very old post, but thanks Porsche Nut for this write-up. I just did the mod and it works great. Frankly I'm a little surprised that this function wasn't standard for safety's sake. I think the hardest part was getting the trunk liner out of the way. I found that adding a small piece of wire (about 4 inches) makes splicing the wires on the inside of the trunk easier.

I didn't read the PDF, but I would second that this is really a great mod!!!!

I've had numerous times at tight intersections where I feel more confident now.

BTW, not sure if the mod makes the flasher alternate between side and front markers but the DIY I found a few years back makes that happen... which is pretty cool!

When the headlights are off, the side markers and front markers flash in unison. When the headlights are on, they flash alternately.

I hate to necro something after 6 years, but Sandy's guide misses a couple things for some combination of 996.2, cabriolet, and bixenon.

  1. There isn't a connector on vehicle-right of the trunk
  2. There is a giant Bosch box labeled "Leuchtweitenregulierung" (aka headlight angle adjustment control)

Don't be alarmed: the wire to splice to is still the black with green stripe, but you'll need to unwrap enough of the wiring harness to pull said wire away from the bundle sufficiently to use your splicing method of choice.
