Hello Gents,

I'm getting the parts together for my first DIY oil change on my 2001 996 TT and have a question.

I read the parts list from the DIY section and purchased at my local dealer, Pacific Porsche in Torrance CA the following

oil filter 996-107-225-53

copper ring 900-123-010-20

aluminum ring 900-123-118-30

they didn't have the small o-ring 999-707-465-40 but instead gave me another alum ring 900-123-106-30 saying this was all that was needed.

Is this correct? :drive: Or should I go out of my way to get the small o- ring and not use the second alum ring.

The small o-ring should be with the filter (1 large o-ring and 1 small o-ring). It goes on the small end filter stalk. I know some folks resuse them.

Copper ring is for the oil tank and the aluminum ring is for the case drain plug. You need all the parts you have... and lots of oil ;)

OK assuming the small 0 ring is in good shape I will try and reuse it but where does the second aluminum ring go?

The oil change quantity on a TT is no worse then the NA cars, 9 quarts, as you cannot get all of the oil out of the system through the two drain plugs.

You do not need to change the small o-ring. That o-ring is pricey, $6, I am looking for another source for the next time I change my oil.

Watch out when you drain the oil out of the tank. On my car when I first removed the plug it drained slowly for the first couple of seconds and then came pouring out. Made a bit of a mess from the splashing.

Well Gents,

Thanks to RennTech, I jumped through the oil change hoop! Believe it or not, the hardest part was removing the aftermarket metal plate below the engine compartment! :cursing: Everything else was down-hill from there. :clapping:

As an aside, to the other newbies considering this DIY, the oil tank plug is on the right side of the car, just behind the rear axel; it's a little hard to orient one's self with the diagram from the DIY section.
