I have installed the first of the PSE mufflers and will tackle the other one tomorrow night. Are there any tricks to getting the tailpipe aligned properly? It is hanging too low. Except for the V-band, I left all of the clamps loose. I tightened the V-band because I thought it would be tough to get at it once the muffler was in place.

Thanks.

As my instructions said - don't tighten anything down until you get the alignment right. On a MY02 and newer car measurement A should be 22 mm. The tip B should stick out about 7-10 mm. You may have to move the whole muffler a little (on the 3 -13 mm studs) to get proper alignment as well as the clamp on the exhaust tip itself.

I would suggest that you go the other way, and first tighten the mufflers to their attachment points, then cinch down the pipe clamp to the Cats, and then lastly adjust the exit pipes with the V-band clamp.

There is quite a bit of play in the up/down, left/right adjustment of the tail pipes with this clamp. You should be able to line it up just fine.

Lastly, the exhaust pipe tips should just barely protrude from under the lower bumper cover. Loosen the bolt that holds them in place and push them back and forth to get that alignment correct. you can squirt a little D-40 between the pipe and the tip to help make it easier. with use that oil will evaporate over time.

When I installed my PSE mufflers I had the problem with the muffler missing the Cat Pipe. The muffler pipe was too low.

Here's how I got it installed.

I left everything loose (the three muffler bolts and the bolt that tightens the single clamp pipe.

Then I loosened up the connection further upstream from the cat.

I then pushed and pulled and got the pipe to line it up. I pushed on the exhaust pipe, pushing it towards the midline of the vehicle and then tightening up the clamp that connects to the cat pipe.

Then tighten up everything.

It is a P.I.T.A., and almost seems like you've got the wrong muffler, but it works.

Loren, Orient, Navin,

Thanks for the input. I'll loosen everything up tomorrow and get it right. I read the DIY and I thought I could get away with cheating a bit. I should have known better.

Oh well, I guess I spend an extra 30 or 40 minutes under the car. I shouldn't complain - it is a nice tonic after a long day at work.

Well, the PSE mufflers are installed. Leaving the fittings loose made aligning the tailpipes a breeze. The PSE sounds great!

There is a bit of an acrid smell at the rear of the car after the first test-drive. Is this normal with a new set of mufflers, or am I burning something?
