From an August 26, 2005 sales memo...

Any vehicle that completed production April 21, 2005 or later, and was ordered with the navigation option, contains the new PCM 2.1 system. These vehicles should have been delivered to your dealership with a factory supplied map disc.

The disc will not be installed in the DVD drive but will be inside the vehicle or the trunk (depending on the model) still in the original disc container.

If your vehicle arrives without a disc you should order a replacement through your Parts department and submit a warranty claim for reimbursement. The part

number is 997.642.257.02.

Cars produced with navigation between April 11 and April 21 could have either the new PCM2.1 system or the previous generation 2.0 system. PCM 2.0 systems will require the Navteq supplied disc. See Vehicle Distribution Bulletin 83/2005 for instructions on how to determine which disc is needed. The discs are not interchangeable.

Cars produced with navigation prior to April 11 will require the Navteq supplied disc. Use the existing Navteq order form available on PCNASource to order your disc.

DISC ORDERING MATRIX

1) Completed production April 21 or later – Disc should be in car. If not, order part 997.642.257.02 from Porsche.

2) Completed production between April 11 and April 21 – follow instructions on bulletin 83/2005 and order the correct disc.

3) Completed production prior to April 11 – order disc from Navteq.

Sir: I have a 2000 996 TT and NAV system (located in Hong Kong). Bought the car used and can find no information on the NAV systems or discs for it. Do you know if it is a Navteq system. Right now when I start the car the display shows "guidance system de-activated". Trying to figure this out without a manual

thanks

Navteq makes the disks for all Porsche NAV systems. In some countries you must order from Porsche and in others they send you to Navteq.
