Hi All,

I just ordered a 2006 997S Cab set for January delivery. When I was filling out my options list, I noticed a power option for $16k. Has anyone yet ordered this option? I did not b/c I promised my wife not to go over 100K:)

Also, the sales person told me that the aftermarket option from TechArt is essentially the same thing at ½ the costs.

I am thinking about charging the option on my credit card and paying it off before the car comes in.

Sounds like the new X51 option for the 997 that will be on the PCA Coupe' but not sure since I have never heard of TechArt doing the Porsche power kit. But for $16 on top of the premium for the "S" model that would be one FAST car! 380hp!!!!!!!!!

According to the MY06 order guide, the power package is inded the X51 option. It seems impressive, but also a lot of $$ for +/- 25hp.

Personally, I'm considering (after break-in) installing an Evo V-Flow air intake, and possibly remapping the ECU, supposedly worth 22hp and 18 ft/lbs torque. I think this can be increased further with an exhaust upgrade, either Fabspeed or Tubi (I know - some folks here weren't impressed with the Fabspeed exhaust, but I'm unsure of the Tubi.) Either way it seems I could get pretty close to the performance increase in the X51 package for a roughly $3k expense. Dollar-for-dollar it would be easier for me to justify, but if you go for the X51 congratulations and enjoy!!

Your sales person has no :censored: clue...The aftermarket TechArt does not come close to X51.

Aftermarket tuners pretty much stick to bolt on stuff and rarely mess with internal engine components.

X51 Includes modified cylinder heads, camshafts, exhaust manifolds, control unit, and aluminum

intake manifold, CF airbox, third radiator and sports exhaust.

Thanks for the input...For me, $16,000 extra would be tough to swing. I may just to take a minimalist approach w/ the CPU and intake and leave it at that. Besides, my wife would cry foul if I go much over $100k :)

Pics to follow in Dec or Jan.
