I need to replace the water pump. Parts are around $300 and a local independent will do it for $550 total. I've replaced the starter myself and an confident I can do the water pump as well. My question is are there any Boxster specific pitfalls :eek: on this DIY?

Not sure if this is a DYI. You should do a search on water pump.

I'd probly change the thermostat at the same time and flush the fluids if it's never been changed (even though Porsche claims coolant is lifetime). If belt is worn, change that too. Often, water pumps fail due to crud in coolant or rusting due to inproperty mixture.

I've ordered the parts and am going to attempt this on my own. I'll do a video journal of the process if anyone is interested.

Follow-Up:

The R/R of the water pump was a success. It was much easier than others I've done. Saving the $255 over having someone else do it was a nice bonus. One thing I found out is that you do NOT have to use PORSCHE coolant. You DO want to completely drain and use a coolant (and water) that contains no phosphates. I used Prestone's 5/150 Dex Cool. It's now running a little cooler than it was before too!
