All,

I have a 2000 Boxster and over the last year or so my ring finger has steadily chipped away at the paint on the gear stick. (pic enclosed).

Is there any solutions to overcome this?

(taking my ring off obviously!!)

Is there a touch up paint available?

Or is it a case of replacing the entire gear stick??

Thanks

Andy

Why not just scrap off all the paint?

It doesn't look like a touch up job. Repainting it professionally will not be worth it. You can either re-paint it yourself or upgrade to a CF or another alum painted knob.

You can re-paint it. Just make sure the paint you use is made for plastic. Sand off the old stuff with very light sandpaper then paint it. Make sure you also use the clear coat that goes over the paint. There's some stuff available at Lowe's or Home Depot that is specifically for plastic, paint and clear coat. I just used it on my 928 shift cap and it turned out great. :D

Then take the ring off or wear driving gloves. ;)

Looks like you have the optional P69 Sports Design Interior, which uses a very unique sliver / black fleck paint. This will be very difficult to match.

Anyone have any idea where to get this paint??

This really looks trashed compared to other Boxsters.

Have you considered asking the Porsche dealer to replace it as it is abnormal wear on a non-standard interior part?

Though I hesitate to suggest it is your fault, you might consider moving the shifter differently. I mostly contact the knob with the middle and end sections of my two largest fingers and the heel end of my palm. The shifter knob doesn't contact the base of my ring finger.
