I have heard this issue can range from very minor, to pretty serious depending on what exactly is causing this to happen...but my 01' 996 TT (US) has popped out of 2nd gear and into neutral 4-5 times so far, and I'm pretty concerned. Each time I was at varying speeds/RPM's (also has happened both accelerating, and decelerating). It has 24k miles on it, and it has a short shift kit installed. Any info on this would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

If the problem started after the installation of the short shifter then I would look at adjusting the shift cables.

I had the same problem from day one with a new '04 C4S. Dealer checked the linkage and told me to phone if it pops out again. It did, I phoned, and they replaced the trans with a rebuilt unit from Porsche. Are you still under warranty? Is the SSK from Porsche or from aftermarket? This might make a difference in how you get the problem resolved with Porsche. I wish you good luck!

I apprecaite all of you guys taking your time out to give me some feedback, I'm bringing it into a certified Porsche mechanic tommorow to have him take a look at everything. I have an aftermarket warranty with Warranties 4 Wheels, so worst case scenario that should cover any serious damage. Thanks again!

Manny,

Had the same problem in my 2001 996TT last year, turns out Porsche knew about the problem, had tech notes from the factory. They repaired no charge, thank you Porsche.
