Need Rear booster seat

Hello anyone know what brand makes a rear forward facing booster seat for 996? Have a 4 yo desperately trying to find a seat. Cannot find any of the ones mentioned in past posts that are still in production.

Hi Moosey,

I have a Diono "Radian rXT" in the back of my 2004 C2 Coupe for my four year old.

 

It's installed using the seatbelt-over-and-back, with the seat cover/pad (the thing you'd sit on if you were in the back) removed. To use the seatbelt to hold it in, you'd want to pull the seatbelt alllll the way out and then when you start feeding it back in it will make "clicking sounds." That's the indication that it's locked into the "only retract, don't dispense" mode. That can be confirmed by trying to pull more belt out of the retractor -- none should come out.

 

The mounting is "pretty good" IMO -- there is a little bit of forward-tilt if you pull on it but it's pretty sturdy (*if* you've jiggled the belt and gotten as much slack out as possible). It's not as rock-solid as a child seat secured with a latch-and-tether system (which 996s don't have, of course), but I think it's probably about as good as it gets. One might be able to further tighten/secure the seat from forward-and-back motion with a strap/connector that attaches to the rear fold-down seat (to the hinge points or as close to them as possible, since those are what are fastened to/part of the structure of the car).

 

Note that there are multiple Diono car seat models with similar names -- there's a 3RXT and a 3R, as well as others. They are, I believe, a bit dimensionally different which will affect how tight of a fit can be achieved. I also have a "3R" seat which is in our Mazda; I tried it in the 996 and it's a bit shorter than the rXT, if I remember correctly, and I wasn't able to get it in quite as snugly.
