Porsche 996 C4S spare electrical plug/connector in engine bay.

Recommended Posts

When looking for a switched power supply in the engine bay to power a sports exhaust solenoid transmitter. I came across a connector that is not  attached to anything. It is located on the UK drivers side LH corner of the engine bay on a purpose made receptacle on the Lambda connector bracket.   I pulled back the boot so I could see the wire colours but I could not identify it. Can anyone identify its purpose? Have you checked to see if your tail lights are working on that side? The brown/white, green white & white could be a turn signal/brake Lt. connector.

I have a terminal block that looks the same (with that type of plug) and is adjacent to the engine mount to the right when looking from the rear. It is not visible in your last pic but near where the O2 blue wire is cut off in the pic.

My lights are removed from the car at the moment but I've had another look and there is no spare unused connectors to plug into that. In the 3rd photo the connector is just about clipped into it's receptacle on the Lambda connector connector bracket. There is no matching wiring on the opposite side.

After studying the wiring diagrams I have identified the unused connector. It is the Automatic Exhaust Gas Recirculation Examination connector. Presumably it is removed from the storage housing and some machine is connected to it.

Does anyone know what it is actually used for and when and why it would be used?

It's is used at the assembly line/factory, not used by PIWIS or anything, has a data line from the DME only though that can carry the same info from DME, but no other data lines included in it like the PIWIS/OBDII connector.
