Torque capacity of 6-speed transaxle gearbox (Boxter S, 3.2L, 2001-2004) G86.20

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I am looking for some further insight and information on the 6-speed G86.20 transaxle gearbox of the Boxter S, 3.2L, 2001-2004. I have done some reading on the topic and I found few comments that indicate that this transaxle is similar to the G96 which was used for the 911, but it has the diff “swapped around” such that the boxter mid engine configuration works with the right-hand turning engine. The G96 seems to have the same ratios than the G86.20 and might be the same gearbox internally.

What is the maximum torque capability of that G86.20 transaxle? I have read that some folks have pushed the Boxter S to double the power - which would indicate that the transaxle can indeed handle 600Nm.

Where can I get the spare parts manual and spare parts of that G86.20 transaxle?

I would greatly appreciate some replies on this topic.
