PCM 2.0(?) > PCM 3.0 PIWIS coding help

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hello,

So, I recently imported a 2009 CTTS from Japan to Canada (it’s a USDM car, not ROW, long story) and in advance of it arriving I purchased a used PCM 3.0, as the car came with an aftermarket Japanese only head unit.
I figured since all 2009 Cayennes (to my knowledge) had the 3.0 units, it would be a safe bet!

Car arrived, I spent days getting rid of the hack job of wiring in the aftermarket radio they did. Re-soldered the whole factory harness back, and installed the PCM 3. Behold! Full working audio with the Bose amp and system, sounds great.

However, my factory backup camera isn’t activating. I’ve manually actuated the motor, it works, and the control signal and camera inputs are correctly wired into the PCM 3.0 head unit. So the issue lies in the coding.

I have a cloned PIWIS 3 tool, which has been great already. I went to check the setting, and sure enough, in the coding options for the PCM I bought, reverse camera wasn’t listed as installed. However even after changing that, still no luck!

Digging around a bit more, it seems the car is looking for a PCM 2?! I guess that’s what must have been installed initially?? Either way, I want to stick with the 3.0 unit. I saw where it appeared I could change this, but it’s asking for a 16 digit code? That’s where I decided I was stuck.

Is this something I’m gonna be forced to go to Porsche for?

Update:

Couldn’t find any more helpful info, so I took it to Porsche. They not only gave me a discounted hourly rate because it’s now considered “classic”, but they went thru and re-coded everything the car was supposed to have, tested it all, and performed a recall. I was outta there for under $300 CAD, with everything working. Talk about painless.
