I've owned my 2006 S for about 1.5 years. The whole time I've owned it, the overhead interior lights haven't worked. The footwell lights, door lights and the lights in the ceiling of the rear hatch area all work fine. I pulled up the wiring diagrams and checked all the fuses shown. All were good. I decided to check the rest of them and found a 5 amp fuse blown in position 27 of the LH interior fuse block. I replaced it and all the interior lights work as they should. Every fuse diagram I've found shows position 27 "not used". There are 2 contacts in that position, so it's definitely an active spot. The fuse diagrams for the 2006 on Alldata, are labeled as 2004. The diagrams I've found online are rather generic and identified as 2003-2010, or something similar.

Is there a factory wiring diagram specifically for the 2006 Cayenne S?

Hi! I have the same issue going on with my overhead lights. The footwell lights are working fine , and the center front overhead lights were working as well, but the side overhead lights above the back seat weren’t working and neither were the vanity lights on the visors, well I changed some fuses and now my center front overheads have gone out . The overhead in the luggage compartment are still working as well. Did you find out if there’s a special fuse or wiring diagram for the 2006 ? Thanks in advance!

Update:: I changed that 5 amp fuse to the #27 spot that is supposed to be empty as per every diagram I’ve looked at and you’re absolutely right! They’re working again! Thanks so much! Still my side overheads above the back seat aren’t working and neither are my vanity lights. But I had a new headliner installed and I believe the wiring wasn’t reconnected after the installation. So I’m going to check that and hopefully that works. If not next I will check bulbs  I suppose!

I had the same problem after a headliner replacement.  The "who-knows-what-it's-for"  5 amp fuse 7, driver's side, was blown.  After ensuring that the upper control panel wires were connected correctly, I started to work backwards.  The sun visors have lights in them.  I removed the bracket that holds it to the roof (two Torx screws) and carefully dropped it from the headliner.  There is wire that goes into the sun visors, it is covered by a pliable plastic wire protector.  I carefully slit the protector, which exposed two small gauge wires (brown and red)  that had been pinched to the point that the insulation of each was abraded; they had shorted.   My issue was driver's side.  Easy fix.  carefully separate the two thin wires, place a small piece of vinyl electrical tape between them, add a dab of liquid electrical tape or rubber cement, put the small wires back into the pliable plastic protector, and then wrap the pliable plastic protector with electrical tape.  Problem solved.

Check the fix works with a new fuse in position 7.  if that solves it, you're done.  Otherwise, go interior light by light to check for shorts.

It was so easy that I suggest one start with the sun visor wires. There is a metal roof bracket where they come through the headliner into the car interior and it is very tight.  If the wire is not seated correctly it will get pinched between the metal bracket and the sun visor bracket, causing the abrasion.

I did not have to disassemble the sun visor to solve this.
