Hi folks,

I just bought a 2001 986 Tiptronic 2.7 at auction and spent time this past weekend changing out the water pump and hood props, cleaning up the drains in the area in front of the windshield and changing the oil. I also pulled the climate control module to get a replacement.

All went well until the end of the day when I went to start the car again and found the row of warning lights on the instrument cluster not lighting up! Very strange. When refilling the cooling system, I pulled the B1 fuse as recommended and ran the car (with the lights active at start-up) until the fans cycled a few times - all good. Oil change was next. Any idea where I should start - some sort of troubleshooting sequence is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Try plugging the climate control back in and test it again.  The 2001 were the first year with widely used CAN Bus technology, which is the communications for the dash, removing the control unit may have left the bus "open".

I'll give that a shot in the morning. I need a replacement control unit and the one I bought online does not allow the fan to operate. There is NO part number on that unit either. Quit a mess for me. Any suggestions on how to get a factory number?

Thanks agian!

996 653 101 08  Control Panel -- no price  -- order by request. (original)

996 653 101 HX EFR  Control panel -- US MSRP $1,240.37

If you get one at a salvage yard make sure it is from a 2001 or newer 986 (or 996).

JFP - no joy on that effort. Is there a place here that stores wiring diagrams? I'm pretty good at following them...

Loren - THX for the part numbers.

Turns out that I missed a blown B1 fuse, a result of the cooling system work pertaining to the Tiptronic trans. . . there's a write-up on it.

Thanks guys!
