I am contemplating various electronics hacks to my 1999 Boxster and I think it's pretty cool to use switches that are pre-labelled. For example, the targa roof switch looks a lot like a garage door (perfect for a garage door opener hack).

Does anyone know where I can get a list of different available switches, including part numbers, pictures, and whether or not they are available with the glossy finish?

Additionally, I understand that the switches are availble blank. Does anyone know what technique would be recommended for custom painting my own label? I have a steady hand and a lot of patience so I wouldn't mind trying.

Oh, and part numbers for both the blank switch (no label but functions as a switch) and the blank switch with a light.

On the subject of 'blank' tip switches (not dummy switches), I couldn't make heads or tails from PET whether there is such a thing. PET shows switches in a diagram that appear blank, but the listing usually designates them for something specific, i.e. sport exhaust, which do have little pictograms on them. I think I'd consult a dealer, who could look at an actual switch.

For a targa roof switch, PET lists 996.613.119.10.A05 (black matte finish). Does anyone have experience with the pin-outs on these switches? (I found pin diagrams for the footwell switch in another RennTech thread--these switches wouldn't necessarily be the same, correct?)

Thanks,

--Brian

Good question because I want that one and I haven't found the part number for the glossy one (if it exists).

does the targa switch exists in a glossy finish?

No, the Targa switch is only in mat black because the Targa did not come to market until MY02 - when all the switches changed to mat black.

Several folks have taken the matte finish switch and clear coated them to get a shinny finish with excellent results.
