Hi all, I've been struggling with airbag light , had module fault codes as well as the connectors under seat, changed the module with exact numbers , codes it to vin using scan tool now I have code 1228 x2 which I can find very little info on durametruc says battery short to ground but online it refers to passenger cut off switch. When u turn car on it says airbag fault followed by passenger airbag off. I wonder if it's a coding issue?

From the service manual...

Fault code 1228  Airbag switch (activate/deactivate passengers' airbag)

Possible cause of fault

  • Short circuit to ground (based on the wiring of pin 81 of airbag triggering unit and pin 2 of airbag switch)
  • Open circuit/short circuit to B+ (based on the wiring of pin 81 of airbag triggering unit and pin 2 of airbag switch)
  • Faulty (airbag switch is faulty)
  • Airbag triggering unit incorrectly coded when locked
  • Triggering unit for airbag faulty

You can try re-programming but that would be an unusual cure in this case. Chances are your control module or triggering unit.

Have you installed aftermarket radio/nav where perhaps a wire was pinched?
