Hello!

Thanks in advance for your help. Someone from my local Porsche group suggested I inquire here about an over-rev report I received as part of my due diligence on a 2012 997.2 base (6-speed) I'm considering buying. The PPI was conducted by German Car Repair in Alpharetta, GA, and showed the following results:

TOTAL HOURS 1848.84
RANGE 1 - 1124 @ 1846.66H
RANGE 2 - 40 @ 1549.41H
RANGE 3 - 22 @ 1549.41H
RANGE 4 - 106 @ 1549.41H
RANGE 5 - -----------------
RANGE 6 - -----------------

There is conflicting information online about how severe Range 4 overrevs are, and it's interesting that the ignitions are higher in Range 4 than Range 3. The clutch was replaced after this report was done, and has been driven over 10K miles since with no issues (according to the seller). Any insights would be appreciated!

Best,

Max

The 6 ranges (for 997) are:

Range 1 - 7200-7500

Range 2 - 7500-7700

Range 3 - 700-7900

Range 4 - 7900-8400

Range 5- 8400-9500

Range 6 - 9500 up

You really don't need to worry about anything other than ranges 4 to 6.

Hi Loren,

Thanks for the ranges! Do you think the Range 4 is cause for concern in this case?

Best,

No that is still a low number - most likely an accidental missed shift.

Ranges 4-6 can cause engine damage but I don't see any signs of abuse in these numbers.
