Hi all, need some help here.
New to Porsche ownership. I just bought a 1999 996 throttle cable car and it has been a dream come true!

Last Friday I ran the Tail of the Dragon (quite spiritedly)

After  we stopped at the overlook near the end of the Dragon, I started the car and got a very rough idle.

I took off and while driving the car is great above 2k rpm's.

Drove it home to Cincinnati and now when I start it it barley runs and has a very rich smell.

There is no check engine light and no stored codes.

Unhooking the MAF will allow it to stay running but barely.
I have removed the IAC valve, cleaned it and tested to make sure it is working but that did not change anything.

I am thinking vacuum leak somewhere and I am waiting on a smoke machine to get here from Amazon.
Wanted to check in here and see if anyone had any ideas....
Thanks in advance for any info you can give!

Have you tested the fuel pressure and delivery rates?  Problems in that area will make the car run like crap and not throw codes.................

Well after a smoke test, I saw some wisps coming from somewhere behind the throttle body. Even with a mirror, I could not pinpoint it.

So I tore out the TB and front plenum. Cleaned TB and IAC with carb cleaner. Cleaned MAF with MAF cleaner. Put it all back together and BAM...everything is running great!

So I'm not sure what exactly fixed the issue, but all told it only cost some time.

I suppose I learned a lot about what it takes to work on the 996 as well, so knowledge is king!

Thanks for the help and suggestions.
