Boxster Rear Spoiler Problem

Recommended Posts

The Spoiler on My 1997 Boxster 2.5 does not deploy automatically while driving at any speed. My friend has verified this by driving behind me. The manual up/down button works fine though. Although there is still no light illuminated on the dashboard. Can anybody help ?

ps there are no signs that the previous owner had fitted a fixed spoiler.

Try the relays for the spoiler. They are #3 and #9 in the rear relay box (in the rear trunk on the left-hand side behind the carpet. Both relays are for the spoiler are #996 615 102 00. One is probably for the button and the other is probably for the automatic at speed. Swap them and see if your problem reverses (i.e. spoiler goes up on its' own but does not go up with the button). If it changes the problem, then pick up a new relay and replace the bad one. It's worth a shot before you get into real diagnostics.

If that doesn't work, come back and post it and I'll give you some more exstensive diagnostics you can do.

EDIT: I found the full chart on the relays. #3 is for spoiler extension and #9 is for spoiler retraction.

Just to be silly, are you going over 75 mph? Place some masking tape accross the spoiler and go past 75 and see if the tape is broken.

I spoke to Peter. There is a relay to raise and another relay to lower, but if it goes up and down with the switch then the relays and the switch are good. http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.a...E-EF0FF63FD3CC}

The speed signal for the spoiler comes from the instument cluster. You might have a bad cluster.

Yes ive had my friend drive behind me at speeds up to 100mph and he said that it didnt come up. Ive always suspected that it wasnt coming up as it sometimes feels a bit twitchy when taking fast bends.

The instrument cluster all seems to work ok. Is there any way of checking the wiring?

Im not sure if this is related but there is a wire under the passenger seat with a 2 pin connector on it. It isnt connected into anything but i cant find anywhere for it to plug in to. There is also some kind of control box under the seat with the following numbers on it '996 618 260 02' (M534) any ideas what it is ?
