I have a 986 Boxster (MY 2001) bought second hand from Germany (and brought to Greece) with Litronics as part of its standard equipment. Soemtimes when I turn the Litronics on from position 1 (indicator lights) to position 2 (lights full on) there is a slight static noise which I observe (for a fraction of a second) as a miniscule interuption in the sound of my cd player (CDR 22 - also standard equipment). This does not happen all the times (mostly when the car is cold and the lights are turned on for the first time).

Is this normal? Do you have any idea what it might be?

Doesn't happen on my 02 996 which has the turbo look xenons. I would suspect it's electrically related. Either a headlight switch, alternator or battery issue. If the battery is old or none-OEM, keep an eye on it. Dimm interior lights would be an indication it's going bad. Headlight switch are known for going bad prematurely so that is another possible culprit.

Ibro,

It happens on my 2002.5 986S, for just a split second as you mention. Its perfectly normal, just a tiny bit of electical noise as the ignitors work hard to strike the arc in the lamps. Once the discharge is established, the voltage across the lamp drops (it takes a lower voltage to maintain the arc than to strike it in the first place) and the noise ceases. This is over in under a quarter of a second.
