Tequipment roll bar

Does anyone (Loren) have the actual Porsche instructions for the roll bar install. I have the Tequipment 4 point roll bar without the crossbar as I want to maintain use of the rear seats. I did a search and it seems like I need to use the Porsche instructions to do it right. TIA

Hi Doug,

I don't think that the RollBar you are talking about is the same one Loren is refering to.

If I understood this correctly you want to install the Tequipment part which is available with or without the cross-member. If this is the case you can find a rather good description here:

The installation procedure should be the same for both bars.

having installed many factory tec bars.....There's still a bit of carefully grunted movements required for proper installation. BE CAREFUL OF CORRECT THREAD IN ON THE BOLTS!!! TAKE YOUR TIME ON THAT PARTICULAR ASPECT OF INSTALLATION-MARK

Thanks to C4S Surgeon we got the roll bar installed yesterday. What a *****, and that's coming from two guys with a lot of car racing experience behind us. Thanks also to Renntech and all the helpful posts on the topic, especially Wolfgang, it helped a lot. But even knowing all the pitfalls and being extremely careful we managed to screw up one of the mounting bolts. What a pain in the *** that was, thank goodness for tap and die sets. We ended up changing out the supplied bolts to all grade 8 bolts, much better quality with less propensity to cross thread.

The bar looks really nice after the install, plus I still have full access to the rear seats. I would definitely recommend the bar but I would not attempt the install solo unless you have lots of experience IMO.

I think the poor quality bolts are the biggest obstacle.

i don't think it's the quality, rather its the length of the bolts. i ended up getting longer grade 8 bolts upon the recommendation in rockitman's write up and it was SOOOO EASY to get the seat belt bolts in.

i did the install myself following the instructions from rockitman and wolfgang. what made the install easy was making sure the plastic substructure was cut away.

it looks great. i have the crossbar version so i can use a harness but i do miss the access to the rear.

Carlos, do you recall the sizes of bolts used? I think it would be helpful for future installers, longer bolts would definitely be easier, ours were only slightly longer. How long did it take you?

hey doug,

grade 8 - 7/16 fine thread bolts. i bought various lengths, 1/2"-3/4"-1"-1/2" longer than the oem bolts. if you can find 8.8 then even better. if you haven't yet, check this thread out rockitman's rollbar install. be sure to check out wolfgank's cutting template. THIS IS THE KEY for an easier install.

it took me about 3 hours for the install, solo.

One thing I ws wondering before I do it on mine, is it really necessary to disconnect the battery, or is simply off/key out enough?

Ignition off is not enough. (Air bag light will come on as a result of disconnecting the seat wiring connector.) Key out of ignition *is* sufficient to keep the airbag light from coming on.

Thanks guys, I ordered some grade 8 bolts from nutandbolts.com you can buy small quantities but a $20 minimum order. Oh well now I have lots of bolts. I'm gonna replace the bolts with longer ones to make re-installs much, much easier between track events.
