I suppose you guys will be able to tell from my request that I am a new porsche driver and loving the whole experience. I just needed some help with oil measurement and refilling. I am finding it really hard to get correct measurement and also not to sure when I should be filling with Oil, is there a general rule for this.

Thanks for you help!

Assuming this is a 986, 996, 987,997 non-turbo (not a TT or GT2) nor a GT3 then measure when it when the car is not running and cold, sitting at least for an hour.

If it is a TT, GT2 or GT3 then measure it when it is hot and running.

Check the level once a month at least. You can do that using the electronic oil level indicator before you start the car cold in the morning or the dipstick. Add about 1/8 of a quart if needed and measure again. Repeat until you are above the middle of the gauge/dipstick marking. Do not overfill the oil as that can cause foaming and poor lubrication, resulting in engine wear.
