I have a really strange issue and would really appreciate any help in diagnosing what it could be as it's driving me nuts. The issue happens particularly when the car has not been started recently ie is cold and is happening 80% of the time now.

I start the car, it fires up then 2 seconds later it cuts out with a loud squealing whining sound for a few seconds and then it switches itself off.

To get around it, if I gently rev the engine on startup, it will stay fired up. Typically, after its been a little warm, it'll start up fine ie on a return journey.

Has anyone come across this or can advise on what the issue might be? There is a link to a video with sound so you can hear it..

If it helps, its a 987 Gen 2 Cayman S

It seems that the starter motor remains activated, there could be something wrong with the electronic ignition switch system. It is not normal for the startermotor to engage automatically after stalling. There is a problem between the electronic ignition lock and the release of the electronic ignition system(DME). An investigation is in order here. Is there sometimes an additional alarm/anti carjack installed?

No additional alarm installed but thanks for the info. I am trying to get it to a local specialist but they don’t know either so hoping that someone else might recognise what the fault is.
