Could someone please shed some light on this TQ ?

I have a 2001 Boxster Tiptronic. When accelerating away from being stopped, on light to medium throttle, in D drive mode gearbox is in 2nd gear. As revs reach about 2500 rpm acceleration slows, then picks up after about 0.5 seconds. Feels like a gear change, but still in 2nd until about 3500 rpm, then 3rd etc.

When this occurs it definitely wasn't doing a 1st to 2nd change as 1) didn't depress throttle enough to kickdown to 1st, 2) no drop in revs, just a flat spot.

Happens all the time and has been diagnosed by local Porsche Dealer as the torque converter locking up. I've heard of torque converter lock up in top (5th gear) in some autos, and lockup between gears in the new MBenz 7 sp auto.

Does the Tiptronic have lock up ?

Anyone with a blowup view of the Tiptronic ?

Thanks in advance

Our tips do have a lock-up convertor. But I have never noticed it. I am not sure if that's what you are experiencing.

I have problems with my tiptronic including the flat-spot that feels like a gear change you describe and it's all due to low trans fluid levels due to a leak.

Jinster,

Thanks for the suggestion - I'll have the ATF fluid level checked at next service, in a few weeks, and let you know.
