2000 Carrera 2 coupe 6 speed: oil filter

I usually buy the oil filters from Amazon.com.  This time they sent me a product that is slightly different from what they have sent to me in the past.

 

The filter is made by Mahle as the filters previously purchased.  The box is definitely shorter, I could not tell if the filter is also shorter.  The part numbers on the box are: OX 128/1 D and 996-107-225-53/67.  On this forum I have read that the correct oil filter part numbers for my car are  996-107-225-52  and 996-107-225-53.    I am not sure if the part number number ending in 53/67 is also ok for my car.

 

Could somebody let me know?

You are correct on the P/N 996-107-225-53.  If the box is shorter then the filter is shorter, and you definitely don't want that.  Is there a part number on the filter (not the box)?

And I recall that Porsche part numbers often change for update designation to the same part.  I remember this from the radiator coolant tank cap and other part numbers as well.

The correct filter dimensions are 113 MM height, 65 MM outside diameter, 24 MM inside diameter.  If the filter they sent you does not match these, do not use it.

Just my two cents but I always buy all my Porsche and Audi parts from Sunset for more than the last decade.  You can put your VIN in on their website and it will tell you exactly what parts fit your car, what the latest version is (with other useful info like superseded part #s), etc.  It's very helpful and you don't have to rely on reading forums (although this one is moderated so you won't find too much misinformation here).  Sunset ships fast, the prices are great, and they have good customer service.  They are very friendly if you have questions about parts.  I believe they guarantee the parts they sell you fit your vehicle as long as you use your VIN although I have spent thousands of dollars there over the years and they have never let me down even once with a part that didn't work.

 

I just ordered an AOS and had them throw in 5 oil filters on the order while they were at it to go with all the Joe Gibbs DI40 Santa brought me.

• The Mahle part number (OX 128/1 D) is printed on the filter itself together with other numbers and letters that are not readable.
• I measured the filter and the dimensions match the dimensions listed in the post of JFP

My guess at this point is that the filter is safe to use.

 

For the future I would keep in mind the suggestion of buying from Sunset, especially considering that the prices of the filters offered by the vendors on Amazon.com has almost doubled in recent times and there is no longer a price advantage.
