Lost Radio Code - post your request here

If it is like a 2003-2004 986 then there is no user code. There is a code in the radio that matches the code in the instrument cluster. If the codes don't match, such as when you replace a radio, then it will not work. To code the replacement radio you need to visit a dealer with a PIWIS. At least this is they way it had to be done with the 986 CDR-23.

I actually bought the code from http://www.car-audio-accessories.co.uk/ & they provided me with the 9287 or 9265 code.

But there is no way for me to input the code.....sending in the car to dealer will cost an arm/leg here in Singapore LOL...

So I hope some gurus here can help me out....

Thanks again for the quick reply!!!

Wilson

The code can only be in the cluster with a PIWIS tester. So you need to find an independent shop with one or go to a dealer. There is no way around this.

Hi...

I just bought a 2001 Boxster and the owner had lost the code before letting the batt go dead last winter. I was getting ready to yank out the CR-220 to do the serial number thing and I found this Thread.

Any specific code numbers that I should try first???

Thanks, Bob

Hold down the TP button for at least 10 seconds after you turn the radio on. "Becker 1" will be displayed. Rotate the right knob (slowly) and it will display the Becker model number. Then rotate it again and the serial number should be displayed on the radio.

Write it down and post it here.

Right now I get a WAIT display. Will the 10 sec get me past that?? Also, I have a set of keys.....I inserted them and pulled until my fingers hurt bad...felt like I would break something! Should I get a set of gloves and just pull harder or am I forgeting something. Right now I just have a set of stuck keys in the dash!

Thanks much for the help.

Loren ....

I tried the 10 sec on the TP button and it worked. The serial number is Y5024942.

But I still have to get the keys out of there so I guess the radio unit has to get pulled out somehow. I'll need to get back in there later for some other work, so I'd better learn how to use the keys. I want to do a GT3 delete of the vertical console (I'm 6'3" and need the space).....The car has that fancy radio tuning panel that changes the mode of sound etc, etc. I haven't heard my sound system yet, so I don't know itf it's worth trying to salvage that optional unit or how I would do that with the GT3 mod done. Lots to learn! Any advice on that?

Thanks again, Bob

Oh, please CANCEL that request for the radio code... I got the serial number, mustered enough strength to yank the radio out, called two Porsche dealers and got the @#$%^ code. It works fine now.

But I have no instruction book for that reverb, sound mode thingy that is mounted under my cd storage rack. I have to admit it sounds good when playing with all the buttons, but I really don't know what I'm doing without user manual. The thing may have to hit the road (e-Bay) if I do the GT3 delete! Any idea where I can find an user manual for the optional thingy????

Thanks, bob

Hey Loren, I did follow the procedure to get the info...

did it again to double check for good measure:

Becker 1

Type 4462

Ser# W5002680

31/98

The model is a cdr220...

The wait screen is still on. Does the radio have to be on for 1 hour for it to go off?

Look at the list of folks who were able to get their radios working again just by asking Loren.....he helped me too...when I was on the road. I think that alone is worth the small pittance of being a paid member to this forum....don't you????

4549 works!

Once I left the radio on for 1 hour I was able to enter it.

My radio hasn't yet been disabled but I know it will be sooner or later. I'm the 3rd owner of this '03 Boxster S & the radio code has been long lost. I've tried the above technique & nothing happens other then "MUTE" being constantly displayed.

Is there another way to get the above information? I know the radio is a CDR23 with separate amp (fiber optic?) up front. But I don't know which amp it is. (4 or 6-channel -- unless they're all 6-channel if it's FO.)

A CDR-23 does not need a code. The code is registered in the DME - so as long as the same radio stays with the same car no action is needed.

If the radio were to be replaced then the DME would need to be updated to the new radio.

okay, so i've just bought a 1999 boxster, as you may have guessed by my name. Unfortunately, the previous owner doesn't know the radio code, and i've seen all the posts you've added with a bunch of numbers, could someone tell me what these numbers are, and how to find them? so far i've found this:

it's a CDR-210

on the back it said "V-" with this in front of it; 620815

and on the back of the radio manual it says "WKD 478 724 97", does this mean anything?

While I have your attention, how do you find the radios' serial number? I hear there's a special tool to remove the radio and find the number, is that true?

thanks,

Andrew

  • 4 weeks later...
I hope someone can help with my code. I replaced my battery and now the radio is asking for a code. Here's my info:

CDR-220

BECKER 1

TYPE 4462

SER: Y5036852

24/99

Thanks very much in advance. :D

Try 2835

or 2837

Thanks for the quick response but neither number worked. Am I doing something wrong or are there other numbers I can try?

Thanks so much for the help. :)

My program does not always work. It works maybe 95% of the time but I have no expanation why it doesn't always work.

At this point you will need to contact a dealer or Becker. Becker charges to lookup your code and some dealers do too.
