I have a 2001 996 C2 than needs the shocks replaced. I have done quite a lot of research trying to decide which is the best way to go. I would like to lower the car about an inch but I am not sure the best method to accomplish this. My budget is about $1800 so some of the better coil overs are out of my price range. I have looked at the HR street performance coil overs, but not sure as they are on the lower end of the price range if they are good enough. I like the Bilstein shocks and would like to incorporate them into my decision. Option 1 would be to just replace the shocks with Bilstein B4 or B6 and not lower the car.
I don't understand why the B4 are more expensive than the B6. Option 2 would be to install the HR Street Performance Coil Overs and hope the car doesn't drop much more than an inch or so, and provides improved dampening from my stock setup. Option 3, which I am leaning to now, is to replace the stock springs and install the M030 springs with the B8 Bilstein's. This will hopefully lower the car a little and give me good dampening as well.
Any thoughts or additional options?

I was in the same boat a couple of months ago and went with the H&R RSS coil overs for my 1999 C2.

 

From everything I've seen and read, the shocks either made by Bistein or use their internals.  The RSS ride is firm but not rough as some might have you believe and I live in the Los Angeles area (crappy roads).  I think the Street version would be perfect for a street car based on my experience with the RSS.

 

The M030 kit was way too expensive - I ended up getting the H&R coil overs, sway bars, and Tarett top hats for less.

Hi just curious how much if any did the H&R coilovers drop the car?  did you have to get new drop links for the sway bars?  

 

Considering this option as well.  I have a 2001 C2 with 100K miles and I want to get rid of the "floaty" road feel when pushing the car.  I drive mostly back roads and would rarely get on a track so the H&R seem like the best bang for the buck?

 

Just curious to get your feedback now that you have them awhile?
