 Hi guys, I am really in a need of help from you guys on the issue that I have with my 2004 Cayenne Turbo. I really love the car and it drives like a dream...until suddenly:

 

Noise from front RHS (driver's side) developed. Clicking noise could be heard and felt vibrations for all speeds, regardless of RPM...the vibrations is like riding the car on railroad tracks when reach 40mph.

 

What has been done:

 

1. Replaced Lower Control Arms (RHS & LHS)

2. Reconditioned front CV joints (RHS & LHS). 

3. Replaced front final drive bushes

4. Drained and replaced front final drive oil

5. Tyres are balanced and aligned.

 

Checked the following:

 

1. Cardan shaft - carrier center bearing still good with rubber bushing intact (no cracks)

2. Sway bars bushings are good, gave it a good wiggle to check on conditions. Solid pieces

Thanks for the suggestion/reply to my problem.

 

Got my local indie to check the car and lift her up the hoist after they could reproduce the issue.

 

Turns out it wasn't the front final drive *phew* and it was the cardan shaft (front) which was making all the racket.

 

The cayenne is an AWD thus have two cardan shafts:

 

1. Front cardan shaft (from transmission to front final drive)

2. Rear cardan shaft (from transmission to rear differential).

 

My front cardan shaft has been replaced and lo and behold! Problem solved!

 

Happens to be that the front cardan shaft has cv joints on each end..which mine had one that was badly shot. The boot was intact though so visual inspection doesn't show anything. The shaft I replaced was made by GKN.
