I have an 04 TT with around 107k miles. Extensive list of repairs. After having new cats put on, I hear a loud whining/screeching sound when under load at about 3k - 3500 rpm.  Noise will not duplicate in Park or on lift.  Im not getting any Turbo faults, which was my first thought.  Im stumped.

Sound is almost similar from this video about 2 min in.  But I would assume if it was TB it would make the noise in Park or on lift.

Have you checked your accesory drive belt ? My Cayenne S had a whining noise like you described (altough it was also when stationary)when the belt tensioner was in bad shape.

My next guess is the transmission/converter. Can you locate where it is coming from ? Any error codes ?

I have checked belts. Im starting to think it was a doa cat.  The VB was just replaced. Air suspension, tranny service...everything.

As soon as cats where on then it made the sound. The original cats were hollowed out. Rsn great, minus the fumes.

No codes.

It is exactly what's in the video below.  Im now having the cats removed to see if maybe they were DOA?  I got them from mufflerexpress.com.  I found out after I ordered the different warranty you get the better quality they are.  I got the 90 day warranty which is the lowest.  Could one be bad? Sound is coming from passenger side when driving. I bought the 955 with an unknown tune on the ECU, too.  There is also an unknown switch on the dash that does not seem to do anything.  Also a Sprint Booster is installed.  Was thinking about getting it flashed back to OEM, but my local indy says not to.

Exact RPM and sound.

Cheap CAT's can (and mostly) are very bad.

My guess is get everything to stock again.

Tunes can be good, but if they are not, they can cause all sorts of mayhem.

Im waiting on a call back form the cat manufacturer. Just suck because my indy quoted 850 for labor just to remove and install.

Any recs on cats that don't cat 3k?

The one from muffler express.com may just be bad or melted due to a richer tune.

I don't mind having a cat del but the exhaust fumes are too much in my opnion.

Thanks for all your help.

The cats that were purchased. 518 for parts 850 for labor.
