Instrument Cluster replaced.

I replaced the instrument cluster (996, 1999, C2  6speeds),. Was able to adjust the millage to the old cluster millage, through a company in California, don't remember the name. It is my understanding that the VIN number is stored in the cluster. Since the "new" cluster is from a different vehicle, I'm asuming, the cluster, has the doner's VIN number. Is there a way to change the VIN number from the "NEW" cluster to the car's original VIN mumber? There is a seller on eBay that claims it can do it but I'm a bit hesitant. I do have a clone PST2 and it is my understanding that for some programing, key fob for instance, IPAS, is needed. Think IPAS is related to tha VIN number.

Thanks for the info but is too much for my computing abilities however, your info tells me it can be done. Rather use a professional service.

Maybe a Porsche Dealer is a better option.  You could call your local dealer and ask.  I have found them to be mostly helpful, although expensive.
