Hi guys,

I have a 2012 958 base with a small coolant leak.  Based on the symptoms and that it is a common issue, I suspect it is the notorious thermostat housing leak.

I have searched all over online looking for the exact location of this thermostat housing.  Can anyone provide some guidance?  Can I inspect it from the top of the engine?  Or from the bottom?  What has to be removed to get to this area to inspect it for this leak?

I understand it is supposed to be near the rear driver side of the engine but I removed the engine cover on this side to look for it and I could not find it.

Can anyone provide some guidance on where exactly to look?  Perhaps with any helpful pics or diagrams?

Thank you you for your help.

Thank you!  This helps immensely!  I assume this view is of the drivers side of the engine, correct?

I have the same model and discovered a leak ~1 week ago. The leak was bad when the car is parked after driving. After looking around, It might be the water pump. I took off the pump and noted dried trial of  coolant on the bottom of pump between the pulley and the pump.  Kinda makes sense that when the car is off and the pump is off and the back pressure of coolant in the pump leads to a leak and no leak during driving because the pump pushes the coolant forward and doesn't allow it to sit in the pump.

Anyways, gonna try to replace the water pump and see what happens.
