All,

 

03 C4S with 58k.

 

After getting lumpy idle and P0022 and pulling the Bank 2 Solenoid for the variable cam timing, I am testing on the bench.

I used some mild solvent and now can actuate it with a 12V supply. It moves and I can see ports in the valve body.

However, they look as if they are not fully opening in spite of a good activation feel when the solenoid pops.

 

(NOTE: D/S Bank 1 solenoid can be pulled with minimal work, P/S bank 2 requires removing bumper cover, hear shields, (both) and muffler in order to access the screws.)

 

Anyone know the correct stroke of the valve ? 

 

I have a new one in bounds (returnable) but I am trying to learn a bit more about the system and determine if this solenoid is faulty or if the problem lies deeper.
