Hello everyone, last January 13,2019 I accidentally reprogrammed my 997.1 to 991 and my car doesn’t allow me to shift into gear. I already brought the car to a dealership but they cannot figure out what’s wrong, they told me at first that the gateway control module is fried then later on it’s the DME/ECU is also fried but I didn’t believe them because  the engine would start and run fine, the only problem is it won’t allow me to shift into gears. Now I towed the car from the dealership and brought it to another indy shop. He told me that the gateway program was changed when I used the iCarsoft scanner and used 991 instead of 997. This is what happened on January 13, 2019, the airbag light went on and I used the iCarsoft scanner to remove the airbag light. When I plugged in the iCarsoft into the OBD socket, I used the 997 program but I didn’t see any fault codes so I explored and went to 991 program and pressed start, after a few seconds an ERROR appeared on the screen of the scanner, then I stopped and went back to 997 program and boom all kinds of fault codes that you can imagine appeared on the instrument cluster and on the scanner. So I started to run the engine, and luckily the engine would start fine but when I tried to shift into gear, the automatic shifter wont allow me to shift it, lights on 4 and P are both blinking. SYSTEM FAULT visit workshop and Software incompatibility with transmission control unit. On TCM the DTC shows fault code “2310 Communication PSM control unit”, “Communication instrument cluster” and on IC it show on DTC “Communication PSM control unit (drive) c152”. And when I started the engine it would show on the IC (instrument cluster the word “ Tiptronic emergency run”).all of these came and appeared on my instrument cluster and scanner. I’m really looking for someone who could help me bring back my program to 997 because according to the owner of the shop, the reason why there’s no communication is because the program right now is 991 and is not compatible with my car other modules. It needs to be reprogrammed back to 997. Need to remove the 991 and reprogram it to 997. My question is there anyone out there experienced the same? Please help. So sorry for this very long story.

The iCarsoft scan tool is not capable of recoding your car's DME to any other configuration.  A defective scan tool may be able to damage the DME or other subsystems in the car, but only a few are able to write code to the DME or modules, such as the PIWIS or PST II.

Worth a try - disconnect the negative battery lead and let the car sit for 30 minutes.  That should reset the DME to base values and programming.  Other than that www.ecudoctors.com

Yeah actually I tried that (removing the battery and leaving it for 30 mins, for an hour and even for several days) but nothing happened. That’s why I brought the car to the Porsche dealership but they couldn’t figure out too, it’s like they’re guessing on what is wrong with the car, the problem is they are charging all the parts very expensive (first they told me it’s  the gateway ($500) then the DME/ECU ($3000) and I asked them if this really defective, they said yes but not sure if the car will be fixed. Then I decided to just remove it from them because I don’t wanna spend thousands and not fix the car. They can’t even figure out what is really wrong with the car because their scanner can’t communicate with the other control modules too, their mechanics were all just guessing. But now, I am hoping that the Indy shop can fix the problem and reprogram it back to 997. They were the only one who said that the reason why there’s no communication is because the gateway is now programmed for 991 instead of 997 due to my mistake when I scanned it using the 991 option. I hope they can reprogram it back to 997.

IMHO, no one is going to be able to bring the gateway, and or the DME, back.  The dealer had the factory scan and programming tool, the PIWIS; if they could not recover and recode the system, new and very expensive parts are in your future, along with coding them into the car.
