Hi guys.Finnally got the Boxster on the road after an enforced year stood. It sounded a bit rattly when I started it up.I have done about 50 miles in it since all short journeys, and it still making the same noise. Not knowing much about these engines not sure if it's something more serious than tapped, alternator bearing???.Im not driving it and will get it recovered to an Indy for assessment, so any suggestions will be gratefully received. Hopefully other club members will chime in.

Thanks for the welcome

I changed the oil before I put it into storage.. I know don't ask! So no, I checked the oil and lubricants when I put it back on the road. Why?

During storage moisture and condensation build up in the engine - I would change the oil after that. Oil is cheap compared to a new engine from a scored bearing.

Oil change shouldn’t be necessary unless you stored the car under water. Have you tried an additive?

could be the IMS

I had a similar issue. The short version is to use the correct(ask!) grade of oil and drive the car gently if the rattle is slight. I replaced all my lifters twice and finally gave up and just drove it ! It eventually became silent. I think the lifters had bled down and were just slow at pumping up again -maybe ?
