Hi

I've just been checking over my roof as its become a bit slow/noisy opening and closing.

Read though all the posts here and checked the cables etc and everything looks fine. I seem to have the newer cables with the re-inforced housing but also have the older red plastic balljoints.

Nothing was broken and I checked the length of inner cable that was inside the motor and again plenty there.

But I seem to have a problem with the clamshell cover being slightly offset to one side, which causes a slight problem when closing, leaving one side very slightly high and requires a gentle push to help it go flush.

The offset is approx 2 - 3 mm and doesn't foul anything, it just causes the locating 'pegs' to bind slightly.

I've tried gently 'persuading' the lid to no avail. I can't see anything that could be adjusted.

Any body have any suggestions ?

PS I'm sure this has only happened since the last service, when I also noticed a slight squeaking from the rear parcel shelf when driving.

You might check the rails that the clam shell slides in. With the clam shell up you can look underneath as see where the forward edge slides in a rail. You might need to put a little lubricant on the rail.

I know of just one way to center the clamshell. The support arm on each side has 3 nuts. Loosen all 6 nuts and you can move the clamshell a bit in all directions.

I had a similar problem. One side of the clamshell was 1/4 inch higher than the other and this was causing it to go down and then shift a little to the right at the end of closing and come in contact with the top. The guy at the dealership adjusted a couple small slides by hand (I didn't get a good look at them and don't have a owner's manual to see what they were). They're on the car where the clamshell connects to it. He did it in a minute and it looks like it's a piece meant to be adjusted by hand. It sets the height at which the clamshell stops going down. There's one on each side. One of yours may have slipped to a higher (or lower) setting.

Can anybody detail their knowledge about the "slides" for adjusting the Boxster's clamshell? The two front corners of my clamshell are equally lower (not completely flush) with the rest of the car's body. Any suggestions? I was thinking of just yanking on each side by hand to try to get the front of the clamshell flush with the rest of the car. Thanks for the help.

I think what was being talked about above is what my finger is pointing to, a nut with a set screw. If you turn that screw you can move the clamshell up and down a bit.

Tool Pants,

On my car, the area of the set screw feels wiggly. Like it's a somewhat loose, is this normal? Or is this area supposed to have little to no flex? I can easily push the clamshell side to side when it is in the air, don't know if this is normal. Thank you.
