Hello I was hoping I could upgrade my base Boxster cluster to a Boxster S with the white faced gauges and need to know if the mph difference would be an issue since mine goes to 150 and the S goes to 175. I found one from a 2002 model I am going to buy if everything is simple enough to swap. Thanks for any input.

The cluster would likely need a PST2 or PIWIS diagnostic tester to transfer settings to work correctly. Besides transferring the mileage and country setting you would also need to transfer the options (cruise control and/or OBC). The cluster would not make your car go faster though...

You should also check with your state laws about odometer reading and transferring - as there could be further legal requirements.

Nah don't want to go faster just liked the look of the white faces and will change out the orange glow to a brighter blue for night driving. I will look more into the swap for recoding the cluster. Upgrading the radio to a Bluetooth system so the factory one is up for grabs to anyone interested. Bose premium sound but no CD changer. It works I just need Bluetooth.

There is also the issue of CAN Bus technology, a 2002 cluster would use it where an earlier model year would not, making the swap problematic depending upon the year of the cluster and the car.

Is this a tool I can buy myself? I saw icarsoft POR II when I searched for the PIWIS tool you mentioned for diagnostics and code resets. I need the tool regardless because my CEL is on and my gas vent valve is dead, fuse was good, and spitting gas when I fill up. Original radio is going in place of a Bluetooth unit so the VIN code won't matter for that fact.

The PIWIS system is the Porsche factory diagnostic system and is only available as a leased unit, first year's lease fee is around $20,000.  You will see a lot of clones advertised on the web, most are either a scam, or a very old version of the system.
