Hi,

 

I’ve almost got me (new to me) Panamera turbo sorted out (other than the front suspension). I have yet to drive a 970 that did not have the thunk/groin/squeaks in the front end,  so I was wondering how many people here have had issues with theirs?

reminds me of the old BMW control arms issue, but it seems like the 970 have to basically have most of the front suspension done to fully get rid of it.

 

I see a lot of people doing various swaps but still have the noises, reading another forum I was surprised at how much should be done:

 

  • Complete front end retorqe including Sub-frame (every nut and bolt)
  • Upper control arms (both sides) – bushings crack – Part has been updated since 2010
  • Lower control arms (both sides) – bushings crack – Part has been updated since 2010
  • Front Sway bar bushings
  • Front sway bar end links
  • Full alignment

 

 

Will Porsche contribute to this if it’s such a known issue?

Mine has this sight knock, doing the the drop links first, tyres are good but might do the track rod ends as well.

Sounds like bottom out ball joint

yep, Panameras do get noisy after some miles.  Same with Cayennes, and other Porsche cars (this issue not unique to Porsche though).

Knocking typically gets eliminated by changing lower control arms and/or upper control arms (these very hard to see until removed - bushings obstructed by mount points to chassis).

Mattress spring like noises usually eliminated by sway bar bushing replacement and/or sway bar links replacement.

Full alignment is very much recommended any time you do suspension work that involves detaching suspension components.
