I saw this post:

PIWIS POST

I would like my local Indy shop to get one of these. They work on german cars exclusively.

How does one go about getting one of these testing units and what does it cost ?

Last time I checked you order a lease through your local dealer. The last cost I heard was $18,000 for the first year and then $10,000 per year for updates after the first year.

Check with your local dealer(s).

Thanks for that Loren, but.....

My goodness....that is rather expensive, no ? Now I see why my shop doesn't have one !!

Also, I take it that PIWIS II is the latest and greatest unit ?

Thanks Guys.....wow, great "lock-in" by Porsche for their dealers.

My local dealer is not so hot....they're good at inspecting and diagnosing cars, criticizing 3rd party add-ons, and selling new Porsches.

Now fixing a broken Porsche ? .... not so much.

I've been using  a PIWIS 3 for a little while and it works great and runs circles around the PIWIS 2.  I found intro s faster and easier in almost every aspect except checking overrevs.

In the PIWiS 3 I've had to run a full VAL ( about 98 pages) and then having to save as PDF and then reading the PDF.

Anyone have a faster easier way to display overrevs on a PIWIS 3?

An OBD VAL will give you over-revs, and only take a few seconds, as it only checks the DME and PDK (if you have it).  Run it from the F7 Additional Menu, and choose Pre-VAL at the end.  When you see the zip file, select it, touch F10 and it will display the over-revs near the end of the report.  You can then print it directly to PDF if you want.
