My MY97 2.5 Tip has been with the mechanics for a while now. I have been having problems with it due to a tiptronic fluid leak.

My mechanic, who is usually very reliable, told me that the leak is in front of the transmission and has already rebuilt the front of the transmission twice... he is adament that he cannot see any leaks coming from the seals he replaced. But he can't find any other cracks either.

He says it's hard to spot the leak while the transmission is on the car, and while it's off, he can't see any leaks either. And yet, the large puddle of pink tiptronic fluid on my garage floor and the subsequent poor shifting tells a different story.

Does anyone know of any way to check the tip casing for leaks? I was thinking wiping the case clean first, and then "spray" a layer of flour over it as a way of tracing down a leak. But there has to be a better idea?
