Hi!i drive boxster 986 1998 2.5 tiptronic.. (tiptronic atf and filter changed 1 year ago). now i have a strange problem only when car engine is in temperature. D or P flash with 4th gear..

i can't feel any difference in normal driving.. automatic and semiautomatic works perfectly and from 1 to 5th gear are ok. A generic dealer attached diagnosis and there's a code

in tiptronic that is like "cooler intercepting valve" (i'm translating from italian!)

What do you think??

Welcome to RennTech:welcomeani:

The Tiptronic transmission has a cooling system control valve outside the transmission that can cause this behavior.  While it is a bit of a pain to get to, it can be changed to correct the issue.

Ok thank you.. is It possible to do this job without lift?do you have the procedure?

It can be done on the ground, but it is a pain as the transmission needs to be lowered to get at the valves.

Only if you have really small hands and long arms; this is why the transmission needs to be lowered slightly...…………..

No, that is the electronic change over valve for the SAI system, not the Tiptronic trans.

I think you need to run a Porsche specific diagnostic tool on the car. You might have a different fault the generic scanner is not picking up.

  • Thanks 1
