Litronic retrofit trouble

I have a 2001 Boxster with the halogen lights. Just upgraded to the Litronics. I spent 2 hours taking the passenger light out. Had to remove the fender liner first.

My impression was that this should be a direct swap. The lights come on but only stay on for a few seconds and go off.

Am I missing something?

If the ballasts were bad I figure they would not go on at all. And I did see them working on the car I bought them off of.
