I just had the stereo replaced in the car and they ran a backup camera. Had the battery disconnected with the top partially up for a good part of the day. When all done the top closed normally. A couple of days later when I took the car out the top opened normally but when I tried to put it back up it went part way and acted like it was hung. It did not appear that it was hung on the wire for the cam but that is possible. I was able to pull the top up by hand most of the way then the motor closed it the rest of the way. Today when I opened it it stopped just short of fully open and I got a top out of limit message. I reversed it a few inches and then it opened completely. Now it won't close. The calm shell opens and then I get a top out of limits msg. Does this sound like a calibration issue or a component failure? I guess it's possible that its hanging on the wire but the camera is working fine and the wire doesn't seem to be stretched. Any ideas I can try before I take it in?

What it sounds like is whoever installed the recent equipment may have buggered the top set up, either putting something in the way, or somehow altering the mechanism.

Happened to mine once and I recalibrated it and all was good.  Maybe your issue?  If you have a Durametric, there is a calibration option.
