Rear Rotors: 2001 996 C2 vs 2001 Boxster S???

So, rear rotors for the 911 are 299mm/24mm.  Boxster S rear rotors are the same size.  Anyone know why the part #s are different and don't seem to be interchangeable?  Part # for Boxster S rotor is 996 352 403 01.  996 rear rotors are 996 352 401 04?  Thx for any help or insight!

Being a curious fellow I checked on some things. The front rotors are the same, but as you say, the rears don't match. Also, the calipers for each car are different part numbers.

 

When you look at the stock wheel sizes the fronts are the same but the rears are different with the 911 wheels being 1/2" wider. This suggests that the offset might be different for the rotors. Just a guess, but it seems logical.

 

I'm still curious what the real answer is. hmmmm

baffling me..  which is easy…  

 

when I checked the specs on Excellence, the rotors for both 996 C2 and Boxster S are identical size:  299mm x 24mm.  Pads also seem to be same for both cars.  So, why arent part #s for the rotors the same?  

 

would love to know as I have found some Boxster S rotors, Porsche branded (Textar) for cheap $!  Thx…  

 

I do run 17" Boxster wheels (narrower than 996 C2 18" wheels) in winter with snows and have no clearance issues at all.  

 

Some genius is out there that can help solve this mystery for us!  Help!  Thx…

Yep. It's the offset, or total depth.

 

Boxster rotor is 67mm deep, while the 911 rotor is 75mm deep. There's a parts supplier in the UK called Online Car Parts and they have technical drawings for each of the rotors from all of the manufacturers. It's a pretty nice resource!

 

It's interesting to note that this seems to be the only difference. Even the parking brake shoes are the same, go figure.

OK, now I see. I just happened to see discs which didn´t have the drawing! Thanks
