Porsche OEM Radio / iPod DIY low-cost interface installation. Not too long ago I bought an iPod and moved all of my music from CDs and other sources onto it. Currently I have over 6000 songs and 576 albums on my iPod and it is just over half full. Since the beauty of a portable music player like an iPod is the ability to take all of your music with you where ever you go, the next logical step was to integrate the iPod with the sound system in my 2002 Porsche C2 Cabriolet. Some folks have had problems with audio noise from the alternator with an installation like this. The noise is caused by a ground loop on the audio side of the Belkin auto kit.

There are 2 ways to correct this, one is with the direct connection of the audio leads on the Belkin auto kit, bypassing its amplifier.

The other way is to use a Ground Loop Isolator Cable such like the one from Radio Shack as your audio input cable between the Belkin unit and the radio. This is the method that I use, and is very satisfactory.

Both ways will not totally remove the noise, but will reduce it to levels that are not noticeable even at extreme volumes.

I am surprised one of you guys hasn't looked into the cd control interfaces and used the cd changer hookup to change tracks on the ipod. I really wouldn't think it would be all too hard. Just find the cheapest interface and take it apart and wire it to the cd changer cable no?

:help: I got the AUX turned on no problem. Connected the blue connector to the wires per the Becker instructions. Plugged in the RCA to mini connector. Just to make sure things were going right, I plugged the IPOD in. I get sound but it is aweful, the vocals are missing, there is no bass. I double checked my wiring per the Becker instructions, took the RCA to mini cable in the house and connected it to the home stereo and it worked fine. I noticed that the volume is very low if only one RCA is connected. What is wrong! Is my radio screwed up? Is my Becker connector bad?

I received telephone power cable from becker fewdays ago; also I had to purchase two cigarette adapters for this modification. Basically no permanent damage to factory harness using becker cable and cigarette adapter to provide additional 12v for my XM radio and cell phone power adapter without using factory installed cigarette port. Now I don’t have to worry about battery is drain out from factory cigarette port. Turn ignition off, all others will go off like regular car.

Orient, the images aren't loading from your post. Could you correct that ? I just got the parts and was really looking forward to doing this DIY myself ... until I noticed my printout was missing pictures !

The images are showing up fine. Perhaps you need to try a different browser or try printing to an Adobe pdf document and then print that document off.

Saved a local copy of the HTML page and it pictures ... My DIY is slightly different but will utilize the same set of wires ...

I just recived the aux cable (1319.116-276), but there were no instructions on which cable should go into which slot in the blue connector. Does anyone have any instructions ?

For the Blue AUX-in Connector Use the cable that has the pair of RCA female jacks. The one with the single RCA jack is for the Phone, and is not generally used.

Insert the brown lead into pin 18 of the blue connector

Insert the yellow lead into pin 19 of the blue connector

Insert the red lead into pin 20 of the blue connector.

Connector C on the radio consists of the blue connector, a yellow, and green connector ganged together.

when plugging in the new Aux-in Blue connector, be sure to plug back in the yellow and green connectors.

Next you must enable the AUX-in setting on the radio. Refer to your radios user manual on how to do this.

Since preparing that, and with the advent of the Iphone, have you considered whether the Iphone could be hooked up to the CDR 220 as both a phone and IPOD using the phone module?

Great writeup. Here is a way to make it even easier and it may help prevent the engine whine some people get. (I didn't get it.)

Go to radioshack and get a $7 part. It has two wires (hot and ground) on one end and a female connector that looks like a cigarette lighter plug-in to insert the belkin plug into. That way you don't need to solder anything. It is plug and play. All you need to do is connect the red wire on the radioshack unit to the green/black wire on the cellphone adapter in your car and then connect the black and brown wires.

Getting ready to do the Becker audio cable mod for theCDR 220. Got the parts from Becker, but wondering if I actually have to disconnect the CDR from power because....of course the prior owner of the vehicle has not provided any radio code info. Thoughts? Thanks
