Washer fluid leaking broken???

My washer fluid stopped working and when I went to fill it it leaked all over the garage floor!! is this a known problem??

There are no TSBs on cracked or leaking washer fluid tanks. But I have heard of several folks that have had the problem. There are two tanks. One for cars with headlight washers (996 528 701 00) and one for cars without (996 528 701 01).

If it is leaking from the left front wheel well then most likely the hose has come off the tank. The hose is put on with a better clamp. Jeff

Dranon.....For what it may be worth, on my '99 C4, I filled (overfilled?) the washer tank (car does have headlight washers) on a level surface and all was well. Then I parked the car in my driveway on a nose up incline. Washer fluid leaked from the left front wheelwell area. I put the car up, took off the wheel, and removed the fender liner.....and......found nothing wrong. Fiddled with everything, even took the tank out. In inspecting the tank, I saw that if it's overfull, and then you tip it slightly back (like parking on a nose up incline) it will overflow through the standard overflow pipe. YMMV.

hello all. my 2000 996 leaked washer fluid when i went to refill it one evening. the fix is to remove the left front wheel and plastic wheel well housing (only the 3-4 right screws. the whole housing does NOT have to come off) and reconect the pump tube to its connector. (sorry, i have no pictures) if you are facing the wheel well, the connection for the tube is located at the very upper right of the wheel well behind the plastic housing. it'a a little nub that the tube slips over. i HIGHLY recommend champing it down with a tiewrap (not an endorsement, but something like this: http://tiewraps.com/tiewrappage.html) to avert another problem.

also, while the wheel and housing off take time to remove any extra debris that may have collected, spot check the brake and clean an excess brake dust off the inner wheel.

the project takes about 45 mins to and hour.

For what it's worth, my '04 C4S Cab had a disconnected washer hose on my way home from the dealer (brand new on day one!). I was able to reconnect it from behind the battery compartment, and it's been fine since.

For a month I've owned a 1999 C4 with 39K miles. (It replaced a 1986 944 I'd enjoyed for 12 years.) I tried out the headlight washers a week ago, and it worked fine for the first two sprays of washer fluid. Then nothing, except leaking washer fluid from the left front wheel well close to the door, as others described above. The washer fluid light came on. Filling the tank again immediately resulted in more leaking from the same place.

So, tonight I took off the wheel and wheel well liner. I couldn't get the washer fluid tank out. It appears to have some kind of a snap in plastic plug integral to the tank running horizontal toward the door. Anyway, the pump for the headlight washing system is behind the tank. I pushed down on it since it seemed to be separated in the middle (or from one black part to another of the same more than an inch diameter), and that solved the leaking. The tank now holds water, and the windshield washer system works fine. But the headlight washersystem doesn't squirt water. It makes noise like its trying to pump, but no water sprays on the headlights despite repeated trys. All hoses appear to be connected.

Is my headlight washer pump burned out? What do I do to get the headlight washer system working?

Please do not bump topics that are less than 24 hours old.

Tanks are known to leak, lines are known to lug and motors are known to stop pumping (because of a diaphram leak). I would start by checking the lines and nozzles to see if they plugged.

Gosh, I hate to reply to a thread this old, but I am having this problem.

My washer fluid tank developed a leak a few weeks ago; car had to go to the mechanic for other reasons, so I got it fixed there.

This morning, I notice that the same washer leak has developed again. After reading up on a few threads, I took my back fender liner off to see if I could fix this. I found a hose that fit into a groove in the tank and followed it to a "t" valve. Made sure it was jammed in good and tight. Sealed it all up, and it is still leaking... I'm not sure if I fixed the right tube. Can anyone describe what the tube and connection look like?

I had the same problem in my 1999 C4. Turned out not to be the tube, but a cracked washer pump. Had to replace the pump and all is well. Not too expensive.
