Hi everyone,

This is a great site. This is my first post; I'm sorry it's a question.

I recently installed a coilover kit on my car and would like to aim my retrofitted litronics up a little to compensate for the lower ride height. I removed the trunk liner and saw 3 rubber plug covered holes corresponding to each headlight. I'm assuming some or all of these are used for aiming the litronics.

Could anyone help with the procedure for aiming the headlights? Are they adjustable left to right in addition to up and down?

Thanks,

Harold in nyc

Harold,

Take a look at your instruction manual, as there is a section on adjusting the headlights (pgs 236 + 237 of the 2003 manual).

There are vertical and lateral adjustments, but the manual only recommends that the vertical adjustments are performed as you would possibly require some specialised equipment to set the lateral adjustments correctly (note that the lateral adjustment control is not highlighted in the drawings).

You probably should not need to touch the lateral alignment unless you have changed headlights etc.

The fog lights have a separate adjustment but it is not advised to touch this unless you have access to specialised measuring equipment.

Regards

Costas,

Thanks for your help. It's amazing what one can learn by rtfm -- something that I neglected to do, for a reason that eludes me now. I guess I assumed Porsche would not want owners messing around with the aim of their headlights, so as not to blind our fellow motorists inadvertently, or drive around with our headlights pointing to the ground.

I have a '99 C2 coupe, and my owner's manual does indeed have instructions for adjusting the headlights, both vertically and laterally. It outlines a pretty detailed procedure that even had me dust off some trigonometry to figure out what beam height I should be getting. One thing I noticed is that if you adjust the beam vertically, it knocks the beam off-center laterally, so you have to re-center it on the "0" on the little scale that sticks out from the headlamp by fiddling with the lateral adjustment. This is the case on litronics retrofit kits, in any event.

Anyway, thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

Best,

Harold

As some famous person said once....

"If all else fails - Read the Instruction Manual"
