Hello All,

 

In some time I have to take the NA 3.6 cam cover open and remove cams, so I have been looking for and reading the 3.6 cam timing instructions.

I have done the older VC F1 timing earlier, but the VC actuator is different here and so is the timing procedure.

 

What I have not found info of is the VC + actuator allocation to neutral / park. I found similar allocation info from 3.6 turbo manual, but not from normally aspirated one.

 

My understanding is, that the VC+ valve (3/4 valve) will close all ports when power is shut down, thus it would keep its position, untill the valve is commanded to retard or advance.

Thus would it be needed to park / turn the actuator to neutral (0 advance?), before initial tightening to the cam and timing the cam system? Basically the cam allocation.

 

I have tried search, but maybe my tag words are wrong or I have missed something.

 

Car in question is:

2002 996.2 Coupe 3.6L

No manual parking needed because once oil pressure is removed, it should spring back to its parked position.

Did not see any spring action mentined in the literature, but we go with that.

 

Any idea if the control valve signal? Is it PWM ?

Yes, the signal is PWM. I don't have it now but the spring back in park position was mentioned in some Porsche literature. The purpose is to eliminate free play rattle at start up while the oil pressure is not there yet while cranking.
