My new to me 2001 911 Cabriolet has developed a problem.  When I hit the engine lid release switch I can hear the lock actuate but the lid does not pop open at all.  I need to get my little plastic tool between the lid and body and twist jut a bit so that the lid opens enough to get my hand in there.  When I open  the lid it stays open.  Seems like there needs to  be more upward for force on the lid when the latch is popped.  Is it the strut?  By the way, I have one strut and not two.  Is this correct or did a previous owner decide that he could get by with one?

Thank you

Myron

I pull my release and then walk back there and lift the engine lid with my fingers.  It doesn't pop open and up like the front lid.  It doesn't have anything to do with the strut, that just holds it up.  Sounds like yours may need a bit of lubrication on the hood release mechanism.

Figured it out.  There are two adjustable rubber bumpers.  One on each corner of the lid.  With the lid closed they are in compression.  When you unscrew them they get longer and put more upward force on the lid, making it so that you can get your fingers between the lid and body.  I unscrewed each one about one full turn.  It works fine now.!!
