There are two rubber bushings that contain brass nuts used to hold down the covers on either side of the battery.  The parts manual lists them as 999-500-092-00 and I just bought two of them from the local Porsche dealer.  The problem is, they are not the same part as my 996 was built with.  These new bushings do not fit properly in my car.  I have an early 1999 996-C2 and Porsche must have changed the hole size and bushing after my car was built.  Picture shows old on left and new on right.  Does anyone have a reference for the old bushings?

Thanks!  That worked although I had to push down on the cover to keep the bushing from turning.  I suppose the bulge becomes permanent after 18 years!
