Brought my 996 C4S home this weekend and within a day of having it the windows are flaking out on me.  First the fuse for the windows blew out, then once it was replaced, I seemed to lose the auto up/down function on both windows.  I did the reset I read about and all was good.  Then about an hour later, the passenger window just stopped working altogether, while the driver's side is fine for both auto up/down, etc.  I just can't get my passenger side window up or down - which sucks given that its down.  I had wanted to start driving this but that'll be a bit hard if I can't lock the car without having a window open.  Anyone have any suggestions on what might be causing this?  The string of events tells me i have an electrical issue, which is really worrisome given how they are often really hard to resolve.

Could be just be the switch has failed.  Change the switches over side to side and see if you get the same result.

The passenger window switch is infrequently used and it could just have corroded contacts.

No, switch continued to work with I swapped the wiring over from the driver's side window.  Neither switch works either since I swapped over the wiring of the passenger side to the driver's side switch and it still wouldn't go down.  Starting to sound like something more involved to fix.

Not understanding what you are saying.  Check fuse D1 again, 30 AMP fuse.  If swapping the connectors on the switches did not work, then possibly the passenger side window motor is bad, particularly if the fuse is blown again.  You will need to remove the door card and check it.  You could "jump" it with a direct 12V wire from the battery to see if it operates.  Check for any corrosion and proper ground with a multi-meter.  You could have 2 problems, one a bad motor and one a bad switch.  You need to eliminate one of those by testing.  Also, there are microswitches on the window operation that tell it when it is at the bottom or top.  You'll have to check those as well.

Switch is fine, fuse was replaced and the driver's side works but not the passenger side.  I ended up at a dealer - didn't have time to dig into it myself. Next time I will though - ended up as a bad window motor.
